DESCRIPTION OF THE PIECE

16" Coral Necklace with coordinating colored catseye chips. Accented with sandblasted gold beads on a gold linked chain.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Red Coral is the most valuable and has been used in jewelry for thousands of years. All coral is dull at first but once polished it shines with a luster. It is sensitive to heat and acids and may fade with wear. Coral maybe imitated by procelin, stained bone, glass, plastic, rubber and gypsum mixtures.

WHERE CORAL CAN BE FOUND

Most precious coral is found in warm waters. Japanese coral is red, pink or white.


  • Red and Pink Coral - Mediterranean and African coast, the Red Sea, and the water off Malasia and Japan.


  • Black and Golden Coral - West Indies, Australia, and Pacific Islands

THE BELIEF

Coral has been said to protect children and parents may still give a gift of coral to their young children.
